DeSoto DT Byron Murphy (6'2, 270) picked Baylor over offers SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Kansas, TCU, SMU, Utah, North Texas, Colorado State, Houston, Georgia, Minnesota, Washington State and more.
"I would like to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at Baylor," Murphy said in a statement.
Murphy is rated as the No. 93 overall prospect in the DCTF Top 100 and is the No. 4 DT in the state.
Next Level Athlete Scouting Report: Murphy is an interior defensive line prospect with good quickness off the ball and has an explosive first step. He uses his hands well to create separation. Murphy attacks with a bull rush most of the time but has plenty of quickness to escape blocks on the move. He moves well laterally as well and plays with a high motor. He added some weight heading into 2019 that helped him develop into an elite prospect upfront, but he did not lose any of the quicks that made him special.
Murphy racked up 98 tackles and six sacks to earn first-team all-state and first-team all-district honors in 2019.
