Texas High 2021 OLB Clayton Smith (6'4, 215) has announced a commitment to Oklahoma.

The four-star prospect picked the Sooners over offers from schools like  LSU, Florida State, Kentucky and Oregon.

Smith is rated as a four-star prospect, checking in as the No. 10 prospect overall and the No. 1 OLB in the 2021 DCTF Hot 100.

Scouting Report: Owns outstanding height and length. Wingspan allows for a ton of frame space developmentally. Could become an edge rusher but athletic enough to play in space off the line. Plays hard and must be respected in backside pursuit. Smith possesses fantastic physical tools relative to his projected position.

As a junior, Smith is credited with 72 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He earned all-district honors.

Texas High head coach Gerry Stanford echoes the scouting report on Smith with glowing reports on what the Sooners are getting in Smith on and off of the field.

"It's kind of like opening up a utility knife on what all the kid can do," Stanford said when asked about Smith's strengths as a player. "He has been offered anywhere from tight end to sam backer, to outside backer, to weak-side rush end, to fit end. He can project to so many different things because he has a skill set that is truly expansive."

"I think when you go look at the NFL Draft, and what people are drafting. They are drafting guys who can go and get the quarterback, quarterbacks who can get away from the guys who are rushing them, and guys who can protect the quarterback. Obviously, he projects as one of those guys who can get after the quarterback and set an edge and still be able to play coverage. I think he brings that facet of ability to any program."

"I think going to the school he is choosing here (Oklahoma), that he is going to be a great asset, and it is going to allow himself to work in a position that he is going to compete pretty quick."

Smith was born with a college pedigree, and he has the character traits that make him unique on and off of the field.

"He also brings a ton of character," Stanford explained. "It is just a really good family. He has been brought up the right way. His mom and dad are great people. He comes from an athletic background. His sister broke the majority of the records at Illinois and plays in the WNBA over in Europe. His brother was a great high school football player at Coppell and then at Wisconsin as well, so he was a college football player. His dad was an athlete at Memphis. So he has been through it all, and he has seen it all."

Smith has been selected to play in the 2021 adidas All-American Bowl on Jan. 9 in San Antonio.
