Tarleton State added a commitment from FBS graduate transfer Steven Duncan on Friday. Duncan started eight games over the last two seasons at Western Kentucky. 

Duncan has two years of eligibility remaining. 

Duncan was the opening day starter for the Hilltoppers last season and completed 58.8 percent of his passes for 790 yards, five touchdowns in four interceptions in three starts before suffering a season-ending foot injury. In 13 games at WKU, Duncan threw for 1,863 yards, 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. 

“He brings high-level game experience from the Division I level and will provide excellent leadership for our team as we transition to the FCS level,” said Tarleton State coach Todd Whitten. “We’ve had a history of talented quarterbacks here at Tarleton State University and I feel confident that he has the potential to fit that mold.” 

The 6-foot-6 South Carolina native will compete right away to replace outgoing senior Ben Holmes under center. Senior Cameron Burston is the only returner on the roster with collegiate pass attempts. Hunter Turbeville and former high school all-state quarterback Daveon Boyd will also compete for snaps. 

Tarleton is in the midst of a transition to the Division-I level. Bringing a quarterback with Duncan’s on-campus experience should help ease the transition for a rebuilding offense.
