UTSA football has named former Schertz Clemens quarterback Frank Harris as the starter heading into week one against UIW.
Harris was projected to be the starting quarterback a year ago after Dalton Sturm's graduation, but suffered a torn ACL during spring camp that kept him out for the entire season.
The sophomore is tasked with fixing an offense that ranked among the worst in the sport a year ago. The Roadrunners ranked No. 117 nationally in passing offense at just 159.8 yards per game. UTSA, along with Central Michigan, became the first program since 2014 to average fewer than 4.0 yards per play.
Harris earned state-wide acclaim as a junior in high school after passing for 2,033 yards and 17 touchdowns, and adding 2,741 yards and 38 touchdowns on the ground. Clemens made it all the way to the state quarterfinals, which was its best postseason run since 2006.
UTSA football opens the 2019 season against UIW at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Alamodome. The Roadrunners will look to improve on a 3-9 campaign.
