SAN ANTONIO -- With junior star Micah Peavy hindered by foul trouble throughout the fourth quarter it was senior guard Jahmi’us Ramsey who carried Duncanville home as the Panthers won the 6A Boys UIL Championship, 72-69, over Klein Forest Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Ramsey scored 19 points and grabbed nine boards while Peavy, who did most of his work in the first three quarters, finished with a game-high 22 points and 13 boards. The four-star junior forward was the reason Duncanville stayed close early against a fantastic Klein Forest effort. And then Ramsey did the rest.

Peavy’s presence shrunk after picking up his fourth foul early in the fourth. Instead of sitting him, Duncanville decided to keep him on the court and hope he steered clear of No. 5. He did and made several key defensive plays down the stretch as well. 

A pair of free throws by Kharee McDaniel followed by a McDaniel steal and a put-back bucket gave Klein Forest a three-point lead with just under two minutes to play. Ramsey wrestled the lead back with a driving layup as the game turned into a battle of wills.

Ramsey’s two free throws with two minutes left in the third quarter finally brought Duncanville even with Klein Forest. Ramsey’s penetrations and three-point baskets became a nice pairing with Peavy. 

Klein Forest didn’t blink in the opening quarter, staking itself to a 20-13 lead. Only a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Peavy cut the lead to less than double digits. Peavy’s second-quarter alley-oop dunk was the stuff of highlight reels to be sure, but it was Klein Forest that held a five-point lead at halftime, 31-26. Peavy scored 15 of his team’s 26 while Klein Forest featured a balanced attack with five different players scoring at least four points.
