Mesquite ISD names new coaches at Horn and Poteet
On Monday night, Mesquite ISD named new head coaches at both Mesquite Horn and Mesquite Poteet. MISD stayed in-house for both hires and at Poteet, defensive coordinator Rodney McClain was hired to replace Kody Groves who, earlier this month, was named Mesquite ISD Athletic Director. It will be McClain’s first ever head coaching job. While another first time head coach takes over at Mesquite Horn as DC Chris Hudler was promoted to replace Mike Overton who retired in early February.

A big week for the Joseph Family
It was a big week in Houston for the Joseph’s whose most famous coaching member is Katy HC Gary Joseph, but he’s going to have some coaching competition at family gatherings as two of his relatives were named head coaches in the Houston area on back-to-back days. On Wednesday, Aldine ISD named Katy Morton Ranch DC Scott Joseph as its second head football coach in school history, replacing James Showers. Joseph, who is Gary Joseph’s brother, has a strong resume in his own right, including five seasons as the defensive coordinator at Navarro College. Then on Thursday, Magnolia ISD promoted Magnolia West offensive coordinator Blake Joseph to head football coach. Joseph, who is Gary and Scott’s nephew, replaces J.D. Berna who earlier in February was promoted to Magnolia ISD athletic director.

Major shakeup in Pasadena ISD
It’s been an off-season of major change in Pasadena ISD as two weeks ago Pasadena High HC Jeff Ganske announced his retirement. PISD named OC David Zapien to replace Ganske this week, but the changes didn’t stop there as Shaun Wynn stepped down on Tuesday at Pasadena Rayburn after three seasons and just two total wins. Then on Thursday, Pasadena Memorial HC Chris Quillian announced his retirement. He spent seven years as head coach at Memorial and had 15 total seasons as a head coach with stops at Emory Rains and Hempstead before his time in Pasadena. Going into the 2019 season, the two most tenured head coaches in Pasadena ISD will be second-year coaches Patrick Longstreet at South Houston and Kevin Bernathey at Pasadena Dobie.

Jason Dean to Georgetown ISD athletic director
Georgetown HC Jason Dean was promoted to Georgetown ISD Athletic Director on Tuesday after 10 highly successful seasons leading the Eagles. Dean posted a 78-37 overall mark in his 10 years and led Georgetown to the 2012 state championship game. The outstanding record is made all the more impressive considering in Dean’s first season Georgetown posted a 1-9 record. Dean replaces Todd York who recently accepted the athletic director position in Midlothian ISD.

Morgan retires at Bryan Rudder
Veteran head coach Greg Morgan announced on Wednesday that he was retiring from coaching and going into private business. Morgan has over 30 years in education under his belt and spent a dozen years as a head coach at Madisonville and Rudder compiling a 108-121 record, including a 6-14 mark in two seasons leading Bryan Rudder.

Wichita Falls Hirschi interviews set to begin
Looks like Wichita Falls Hirschi will be bringing in six to eight candidates to interview for its vacant head football position and those interviews will begin on Thursday. Candidates will interview in front of a committee of four that will include the WFISD athletic director, two campus administrators and one community member. Several talented young assistants from the DFW area are reportedly among the field of candidates.

Monahans doesn’t look too far for a new coach
There’s been an unusual amount of turnover at Monahans the past two seasons. Known as one of the most stable coaching situations in the state, the Loboes only had two coaches from 1997-2007, but things have been a little different since Mickey Owens’ retirement at the end of the 2017 season, as former McCamey HC Fred Staugh was hired on Thursday to lead the program. The district is hoping a new face will bring back stability to a proud program and Staugh has a solid resume. He spent the last two years leading McCamey and has a solid 18-6 mark. Prior to his stint at McCamey he was an assistant at Andrews.

Randall Johnson takes over at Dallas Lincoln
After a rough stint as head coach at Dallas Roosevelt from 2014-2017, Randall Johnson took a step back and became the offensive coordinator at Wilmer-Hutchins for the 2018 season. The Eagles' offense took off under Coach Johnson’s guidance winning a district title and nearly pulled off a major first round playoff upset against Celina. That success is giving Johnson another shot at being a head coach as he takes over at Dallas Lincoln, which is his alma mater and where he got his start under Reginald Samples.

Williams steps down at Wellington
In a surprise move Wade Williams resigned his post at Wellington after 11 highly successful seasons posting a 122-22 record and winning a state title in 2013. Wellington lost a very strong group of seniors and could potentially be in for a bit of a rebuild and with a new head coach that rebuild could be a bit tougher now.
