DALLAS (SMU) – Head Coach Sonny Dykes and the SMU football program today announced the addition of 14 student-athletes to the 2019 Mustang signing class. This is the second season featuring Early Signing Day, with the remainder of the 2019 signing class joining Feb. 6, 2019.

The early signing group includes 12 prep signees and two junior college transfers. Nine student-athletes hail from the Lone Star State, while incoming Mustangs also come to the Hilltop from Louisiana, Michigan, Florida and Utah.

Key Signee:

ATH Keonte Burns (6-3, 185) - Pittsburg: Heading into college Burns is already drawing comparisons to Courtland Sutton. Burns is the highest rated SMU signee and picked the Mustangs over Power Five conference offers. He has the talent to play wide receiver or safety in college but he could be a true star in the AAC on offense. Burns has plenty of upside and will continue to improve once he is in a college strength program.

Fan Favorite:

Terrance Gipson (6-0, 190) - Spring Westfield: Gipson missed most of his senior year with an injury but he has the type pf competitive mentality to come and compete early in his college career. He will have to continue to make improvements with his accuracy and consistency but he has a cannon for an arm and is a true dual-threat.

Super Sleeper:

DB Chace Cromartie (6-0, 170) - Cibolo Steele: Cromartie is only rated as a two-star but his recruitment was hotly contested down the recruiting homestretch as many FBS programs were trying to get him on board. Steele has boasted one of the state's best defensive backfields and Cromartie is a big reason why.
