Three Key Additions
Who were the highest rated signees or prospects who might come in and make an immediate impact?
- OL Kenyon Green (6'4, 330) - Atascocita: Green was the 2018 cover boy for Dave Campbell's Texas Football Rising Magazine and a source close to the program thinks he might be the top talent on the A&M O-line the moment he steps on campus. He is versatile and athletic — a big dancing bear. Green had every offer imaginable but elected to stay close to home and play in the SEC.
- DL DeMarvin Leal (6'4, 280) - Converse Judson: Leal is one of the nation's top talents regardless of position, and there are some out there who firmly believe he is the No. 1 prospect in the state, and he is the No. 1 rated defensive prospect. He has a unique blend of power and explosion. He has experience playing all over the defensive front, and that is how we expect the Aggies to use him. He can be moved around to create scheme mismatches.
- DB Brian Williams (6'1, 210) - Bishop Dunne: Don't forget Williams. He was at one time rated as the state's No. 1 prospect, and since then he's set his school's career interception record and powered one of the state's most suffocating defenses to a TAPPS D1 state title. Williams has a college football pedigree and is the type of defensive back who has helped a team like Alabama ascend the CFB mountain. This is what a difference maker in the secondary is supposed to look like.
Fan Favorite
What prospect was a fan favorite on social media or a local hero who starred near the campus?
- RB Isaiah Spiller (6'1, 200) - Klein Collins: Spiller is a legacy recruit — the son of former Texas A&M tight end Fred Spiller. Isaiah initially committed to Oklahoma but flipped to the Aggies after Jimbo Fisher took over in College Station. Spiller is versatile and can catch the football like a wide receiver. His ability to stay on the field for all four downs should help him see the field early on his college career.
Super Sleeper
We pick one prospect on the commit list and break down how he might outplay his ranking in college.
- QB Zach Calzada (6'3, 195) - Lanier (GA): Calzada hit a growth spurt and quickly grew from 5'10 - 6'3 and that helped power his rise up recruiting boards, but his national rankings are still low. He picked A&M over a myriad of significant offers, most notably Georgia. Calzada has superior arm strength and will stay in the pocket to deliver tough passes in the face of pressure. He also has shown toughness — playing 10 games his senior year with cracked ribs.
