Top-Rated WR Looking Into New Recruiting Options
Mason won the game and DE Slone Stultz had a tremendous performance and took home MVP honors, but the top-rated recruit in the contest was New Deal WR DK Blaylock (6'5, 170).
In the game, Blaylock did not get the chance to showcase his deep ball ability but did show some good quickness and open field agility, especially for a prospect with his length. Blaylock had to leave the field in the second half due to what appeared to be a concussion.
The one-time Iowa State commit recently opened up his recruitment. Sources close to Blaylock informed on Thursday that he is considering programs like Kansas, Texas Tech and Boise State. Iowa State is still in the picture.
Blaylock will sign in February during the 2019 recruiting cycle's second signing period.
TCU Commits Lead Newton to State Title Win
TCU Class of 2019 commits RB Darwin Barlow (5'11, 195) and ATH Josh Foster (6'0, 170) powered Newton’s 21-16 win over Canadian in the 3A DII game.
Barlow, who plays with a bruising style, racked up 143 yards and scored two touchdowns. He was named the Offensive MVP.
"It was a blessing from God," Barlow said. "He put us together for a reason. It's just the greatest feeling in the world."
"I was nervous coming into the game but coach told us to just pound the ball; just ground and pound for three or four yards and you will break one eventually, but my mindset was that it is my last game and I need to make something happen."
Barlow did not ink with TCU in the Early Signing Period. He also offers from schools like Arkansas and LSU but reports that he is still solid with the Frogs.
Foster played quarterback and safety in the game. He led with 9.5 tackles and had two PBUs.
"It felt great to end your senior with two in a row, back-to-back," Foster said.
Foster reports that he is happy to go out on top and is ready for the next level in the Big 12.
2021 Prospect Puts Name on Radar in Thursday Finale
We previewed Grandview DE Demetrius Crownover in the Top CFB Prospects to Watch in the UIL Football State Championships article but this game was his time to arrive on statewide radars, and he started receiving media attention as soon as he stepped onto the field.
He was one of the day's most physically impressive prospects -- checking in at 6'7, 230.
Crownover started off slow but hit a crescendo in the fourth quarter when he got a key sack and a QB pressure that helped stall Malakoff drives. Crownover scored the night's final TD, securing a 15-yard pass late in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice.
Grandview won the 3A DI title 35-21.
Crownover, who was known mostly for his achievements on the basketball court heading into the 2018 season, is still raw as a prospect but has the size, length, and feel of a next level recruit. He is not on many major college radars yet but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him get there.
With some added weight Crownover could have scary potential as an OT prospect.
