QB Grant Gunnell - Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons)
When comparing high school players to NFL stars there will never be an exact match, but Gunnell reminds me physically of Matt Ryan when he was at Boston College. Like Matt Ryan, he has a good feel in the pocket and knows how to avoid the rush and find a wide out who can make a big play for him. As a passer, the Class of 2019 Arizona commit does a lot of things well that has kept Sam Bradford in an NFL jersey. He can pick defenses apart with his short game, but can dial it up when he needs to. The 6-foot-6, 222-pounder can pick up yards with his feet and is very mobile in the pocket. Gunnell, who preps at St. Pius X, is closing in on some national passing records.
WR Dylan Wright - Alshon Jeffery (Philadelphia Eagles)
The Class of 2019 Texas A&M commitment is still developing his skill set, but the scouting report for Alshon Jeffery would be close to an identical read. Both are receivers with a physical advantage, and both possess the ability to make huge plays deep down the field. They are home-run hitters. Both Wright and Jeffery are great leapers who can track the ball in the air and go up to get it and make a monster play look easy at times. As a senior, Wright has already caught four touchdowns passes for West Mesquite.
RB Seth McGowan - LeSean McCoy (Buffalo Bills)
McCoy's high school highlights were probably shot on VHS tape, so I am dating myself with this comparison some, but they are both about the same height and weight coming out of high school and have some similar qualities on and off the field. On the field, both operate well in between the tackles and have good feet. McGowan brings certain professional quality to the high school game with his preparation off the field and McCoy has been the consummate pro throughout his time in the NFL. McGowan does not get the chance to showcase his abilities as a pass catcher much on film, but has shown on the camp and combine circuit that he is more than capable. McGowan is a Class of 2020 prospect at Mesquite Poteet.
