Seth McGowan, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back from Mesquite Poteet is one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the Class of 2020.

He already owns offers from schools like Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, SMU, Stanford, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech

Mesquite Poteet head coach Kody Groves loves what he sees out of McGowan on the field and off. He named him a team captain as a junior.

"The first one ever," Groves said. "And we have had some good kids. McGowan is a great high school player, he is a great leader in the locker room, and he is a great student. His leadership is off the charts."

Schools in the SEC like Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M all have a serious shot to sign him.

"It's just elite in one word," McGowan explained. "Everyone talks about the SEC, and it is definitely elite. You can see a difference in how it separates itself from the other conferences, and I feel like if you want to go play elite football, you have to consider the SEC."

McGowan -- who rates in the Top 10 of his class academically -- likes the blend of football and academics that Stanford offers.

"I have a tremendous interest in them," McGowan reported. "They are top tier in everything that they do, all of their categories. They always communicate with me, and it is one of those schools that when we talk, we talk about more than just football."

The Sooners are a serious Big 12 option for McGowan. He plans to be in Norman for the Sooners game against Oklahoma State.

"It is really close," McGowan said. "They have a winning culture, and it is something they established with me early on. We have been communicating pretty consistently. I feel that it is something I think that will keep growing."
