Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman picked up a plethora of national accolades for his outstanding performance against Houston over the weekend.

Bowman picked up National Quarterback of the Week honors from both the Davey O'Brien and Manning Awards on Thursday. He also won Walter Camp National Player of the Week, Manning Award Star of the Week, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player of the Week and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week over the last several days.

The freshman from Grapevine set a Big 12 and Texas Tech freshman record with 605 passing yards in a 63-49 win over the Houston Cougars. Bowman also added five touchdowns with zero interceptions in the thrilling performance. His mark broke Patrick Mahomes' freshman passing record of 598 yards, which was set against Baylor in 2014.

Bowman came into spring as the third-string quarterback, behind McLane Carter and Jett Duffey. But after Carter went out with a high ankle sprain, Bowman assumed the starting responsibilities. In just three games, Bowman has completed 70.7 percent of his passes for 1,160 yards, eight touchdowns and zero interceptions. He's averaging 8.7 yards per pass attempt.

Before Texas Tech, Bowman was a hugely productive quarterback at Grapevine High School. In a four-year career, he threw for 11,393 yards and 119 touchdowns for the Mustangs.
