Huntsville hires former Lockhart head coach

Huntsville ISD has named former Lockhart head coach Todd Moebes as the next athletic director/head football coach at Huntsville High School.

Dave Campbellā€™s Texas Football has confirmed that Huntsville ISD has named former Lockhart head coach Todd Moebes as the next athletic director/head football coach at Huntsville High School.

Moebes, who resigned his post at Lockhart last Thursday, had spent the past six seasons leading the Lions, three of which saw them reach the playoffs.

The new Huntsville head coach has a 76-75 overall head coaching record. He spent 2011-2017 as the head coach at Abilene Cooper, leading the Cougars to five regional semifinal appearances.

Moebes spent 11 total seasons at Abilene Cooper as he was the defensive coordinator from 2007-2010 before his promotion. He started his coaching career at his alma mater, Katy High.

Huntsville is a team that has had a lot of recent success. The Hornets advanced to the 5A-Division II regional finals in 2023 and advanced to the area playoffs last season before falling to eventual state runner-up South Oak Cliff.

The Hornets return a lot of talent and many consider them to be the co-favorites in 8-5A Division II along with Port Neches-Groves, who won the 2023 state championship.
