McKinney ISD on Tuesday night named Lewisville defensive coordinator Stu Johnson as the next head football coach at McKinney Boyd, Johnson replaces Daniel Foster who resigned after three seasons.
Johnson has spent the last six seasons as the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Lewisville High School, where the Fighting Farmers have consistently been among the best defensive units in the DFW area. In 2022, his defense was a big part of the ‘Farmers run to the 6A-Division I Regional Final.
Johnson has extensive experience prior to his time at Lewisville, he started out as an assistant at Wabash College in Indiana, before spending time as a graduate assistant at Purdue. Johnson made his way to Texas in 2007 where he spent four seasons coaching safeties at Mesquite High.
From Mesquite High, Johnson went to East Texas where he spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Mount Vernon. Coach Johnson returned to DFW for the 2013 season where he coached cornerbacks for two seasons at Coppell, he then went to Frisco Independence for two seasons and then became defensive coordinator at Princeton for two years before then heading to Lewisville.
“My family and I are excited to be a part of McKinney ISD, we are ready to get fully invested into the district,” said Johnson.
When asked what initially attracted him the position Coach Johnson was very clear in what he saw at Boyd, “Boyd has a great program all-around in athletics, McKinney ISD is a high academic district and Boyd is a high academic campus, it’s a place that has a ton of potential to be elite not just in football , but in all sports.”
Johnson, who plans on officially starting at McKinney Boyd on Friday January 24, was impressed with McKinney ISD throughout the process, “There’s great leadership in McKinney ISD from the campus level at Boyd, all the way up to Coach Pratt (McKinney ISD superintendent), we are fired up to be a part of the district.”
