Giddings Hires Schulenburg's Luke Hobbs As New Head Coach

Schulenburg head coach Luke Hobbs takes over at Class 4A-Division II Giddings

Giddings ISD on Monday afternoon named Schulenburg head Luke Hobbs as the next athletic director/head football coach at Giddings High School. Hobbs replaces Michael Adams who resigned after three seasons at the conclusion of the season in early November.

Hobbs spent two seasons leading the Shorthorns posting a 13-10 overall record, including an 8-4 mark and a trip to the area round of the playoffs this past season.

The Ogden, Utah native played college football at Dixie State University (now known as Utah Tech) before making his way to Texas to take the QB Coach job at Giddings High School. “I married a Texas girl, so we came to Texas and I started my coaching career at Giddings,” said Hobbs.

Hobbs made his way back home to Utah after leaving Giddings where he became the offensive coordinator at Roy High School in Roy, UT. Hobbs spent three seasons in his native Utah RHS which has an enrollment of approximately 1,900 students.

Coach Hobbs returned to Texas in 2022 where joined Matt Schobel’s staff at Columbus as the Cardinals offensive coordinator, he spent one seasons at CHS before being named the new head coach at Schulenburg in December 2022.

“We love Schulenburg and the kids and it is tough to leave. We had some familiarity with Giddings since I coached there, it was a great experience for me as a young coach. I felt like it was an honor to be able to put my name in the hat there and have a chance at a job where you can jump two classifications and not have to move too far.  Honestly, I applied late in the process and this has been a whirlwind, we are really excited to get started and be in the community,” said Hobbs.

The new Giddings head coach anticipates a February 3 start date at his new job and he’s got a plan on how things need to go. “The biggest thing when I get to Giddings is watching and evaluating the kids, I don’t think it’s broken, Giddings is not a rebuild, we just got to see what they are doing well and where I can step in and help and make it better,” said Coach Hobbs.
