Stepp's No. 8 Game of 2024: Frisco Panther Creek vs Lake Dallas
Matt Stepp's No. 8 game he saw in during the 2024 Texas high school football season was between the Frisco Panther Creek Panthers and the Lake Dallas Falcons.
Panther Creek would add a field goal from Beckham Catmull with 7:37 left in the third quarter to extend the lead to 31-6 setting the stage for a wild Lake Dallas rally. The Falcons would get back into the game with a touchdown from running back Malcom Simon on a one-yard run and after an interception LDHS got another score as QB Thomas Adams threw a 15-yard pass to wide receiver Gavin Young. Those scores trimmed the lead to 31-20 with 1:09 left in the third quarter.
LDHS would later cut the game to a one score lead on a 30-yard field goal from Mitchell White to make it a 31-23 game. With 3:41 left in the game the Falcons defense would get a stop and give their offense the ball back with a shot to tie the game up. The Falcons would move to the Panther Creek thirteen yard line but the Panther Creek defense would get a stop with 0:39 left in the game and it appeared PCHS was ready to run the clock out.
However, Panther Creek would fumble on their first play giving Lake Dallas the ball back with another chance to tie the game up. This time LDHS would capitalize as QB Thomas Adams tossed a six yard touchdown pass to Braxton Allison making it 31-29 and RB Brauchle would run in the two point PAT to tie the game up at 31-31 to send the game to overtime after Lake Dallas blocked a last ditch Panther Creek field goal attempt on the final play of regulation.
LDHS opened overtime with the ball and quickly took their first lead of the game as Adams threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to TE Chase Elliot giving Lake Dallas a 38-31 lead. Panther Creek would answer on their series as Seth Jackson would score on a 14-yard touchdown run to tie the game up at 38-38 going into the second overtime.
This time Panther Creek would start with the ball in the second overtime and the Panthers would take a 44-38 lead as Jalen Lott would score on a one-yard run, but the two-point PAT failed. Lake Dallas would have a response as QB Adams would score from a yard out to make it 44-44, but the Lake Dallas two-point try would fail to send the game to a third overtime.
In the third overtime, both teams would fail to convert sending the game to a fourth overtime. Panther Creek would convert on their dueling two point try in the fourth overtime as QB Fry connected with Trickett to make it 46-44. Lake Dallas’ attempt would be incomplete and Panther Creek would walk out of Lake Dallas with an exhausting 46-44 four overtime victory.
The loss was devastating for Lake Dallas as this started a four game losing streak to end the season and the Falcons would miss out on the playoffs, while Panther Creek would finish the season winning four straight games before falling in the area playoffs to Alvarado and finishing with a 10-2 record.
