Westwood's Wood Retiring after 20-Year Stint at School

Anthony Wood announced his retirement on Thursday afternoon after a 20-year run as the head coach at Round Rock Westwood.

Wood, who took over at Westwood in 2005 after spending two seasons as an assistant coach, posted a 90-119 overall record with a high-water mark coming in 2010 and 2011 when the Warriors posted a 10-2 and 9-4 record in back-to-back seasons.

“I got to live out my dream every day," Wood said. "I’ve truly enjoyed coaching. Getting to have my two daughters at work with me for six years was just a blessing. Being in the same place for 20 years is just amazing. "I’m so fortunate that our community at Westwood valued athletics, but we also had great administration on campus and in Round Rock ISD. My biggest thing is I wanted to treat people the right way and I think that helped me stay in one place for so long, which is not the norm in our profession.”

He started his coaching journey back in 1994 as an assistant coach under Tim Teykl. He then moved on to Iriving MacArthur before briefly going into the college ranks where he was on staff at SMU under Phil Bennett.
