Multiple sources have confirmed to Dave Campbell's Texas Football that Valdosta State head coach Tremaine Jackson will be named Prairie View A&M's head coach within the next few days. Jackson led the Blazers to the NCAA Division II championship in McKinney on Saturday.

Jackson was named American Football Coaches Association Division II Coach of the Year after guiding the Blazers to a 13-1 record and a date against Ferris State for the DII football championship. 

The Houston native has worked as an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville, Trinity Valley, Texas Southern, Abilene Christian, and Texas State before being named head coach at DII Colorado Mesa. He led the Mavericks to a 2-1 record during the Spring 2021 season shortened by the pandemic. Jackson departed CMU and accepted the same position at Valdosta State following an 8-2 season in 2021.

The Blazers posted a 5-6 record in 2022, which led some fans to call for Jackson's firing – however, the administration stuck by him. Valdosta State has since won 23 of its last 25 contests, with a chance to add a national title on Saturday after making it to the quarterfinals in 2023.

Jackson takes over a program that won consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference West Division titles in Bubba McDowell’s first two seasons. However, a 5-7 record, including a 3-5 mark and a fourth-place finish in the SWAC West, led to a decision not to renew McDowell’s contract.
