2024 UIL State: Thursday's Must-See Prospects

Thursday's games will include 2027 Woodville QB Luke Babin and trio of Columbus stars in QB Adam Schobel, DE/TE John Schobel and RB Grayson Rigdon.

2A Division I: Stamford vs. Ganado - 11:00 am

Stamford: 2025 RB/LB Kaston Vega (#10) is a 5-foot-10, 185-pound two-way dynamo - a bully who plays with a hard-hitting style that has helped him secure offers from Howard Payne and McMurry. Due to his physical nature, defense may fit him well at the next level. 2025 RB Cle Whitfield (#7), a 5-foot-10, 185-pounder, joins Vega in the backfield and owns offers from Wabash and McMurry. 2025 QB/ATH Christian Duran (#2) is an exciting 5-foot-7, 160-pound dynamo who recently picked up his first offer from Howard Payne.

Ganado: 2025 QB/ATH Bryce Ullman (#11), a 5-foot-10, 175-pounder, 2026 ATH Landon Hicks (#1) and 2027 ATH Logan Bures (#2), a 5-foot-8, 160-pounder are three names to know. Bures is especially interesting because he is a quick-twitch two-year varsity starter and has already been selected as a team captain.

3A Division II: Gunter vs. Woodville - 3:00 pm

Gunter: 2025 S Colin Peacock (#3) is the highest-rated player on the team and signed with Baylor in the Early Signing Period, but he will not be active due to injury. 2025 DE/OLB Major Thornhill (#10) is a 6-foot-2, 210-pounder with seven offers, including Air Force, Army, North Texas, SFA, Montana, and Montana State. 2025 OT Braden Robinson (#75) continues to generate interest and now has five offers. 2025 K/P/ATH Preston Tarpley (#12) is one of the state's best kickers and is still available.

Woodville: 2027 QB Luke Babin (#13), a 6-foot-3, 175-pounder, has developed into one of the state's top prospects this season, securing a DCTF four-star ranking as well as offers from Baylor, Houston, TCU, Texas Tech and UTSA. 2025 RB Zayon Williams (#15), a 5-foot-8, 180-pounder, holds offers from Sul Ross and Nelson. If you have not been paying attention, 2025 LB/RB Tayvion Hunter (#3), a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, has been absolutely dominating in the playoffs and recently added his first offer from Sul Ross, but we agree with Coach Robinson; it is a shame that he only has one offer right now. 2026 WR Kenneth Rigsby (#10) is a name to know. He is the uncle of current Texas Tech DL Braylon Rigsby.

3A Division I: Malakoff vs. Columbus - 7:00 pm

Malakoff: 2025 QB/S Mike Jones (#12), a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder captured Offensive MVP honors following last year's title win and Lamar and TVCC are credited with offering him, but he is one of the more intriguing prospects to watch in this year's game because he is still available and produces at an extremely high level. 2025 ATH Parker Poteete (#11) is a 6-foot-3, 205-pounder who has offers from Midwestern State, CSU-Pueblo, TVCC and more. 2026 DT Daniel Norrell (#68) and RB Jerrion Hall (#6) are underclassmen to know.

Columbus: 2025 four-star QB Adam Schobel (#8) will be the main attraction as he signed with TCU in the Early Signing Period and is a finalist for Mr. Texas Football. His cousin, 2025 LB/DE/TE John Schobel (#4), also inked with TCU, and the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder is extremely versatile. The latter Schobel is credited with 183 tackles on the season. Wyoming signee RB Grayson Rigdon (#1) could be the biggest storyline at state as he can set a record by winning four state title rings.
