Sulphur Springs (10-2) vs Alvarado (12-0), 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mesquite’s Memorial Stadium:
This has the makings of one of the state’s most entertaining games of the week as two explosive offensive attacks meet up in Mesquite.
Sulphur Springs rolled past a good Springtown squad, 56-39, last week as the Wildcats got contributions from all their playmakers. WR Skylar Lewis, a Texas State commit, had a pair of touchdown receptions, while their backfield due of Deuce Hall (three touchdown runs) and Jaxson Haire (two touchdown runs) put up monster efforts. The Wildcats defense held Springtown to just seven points in the second half.
Alvarado survived an overtime classic last Thursday against Frisco Panther Creek, 44-41. QB Cardea Collier threw for 282 yards and two scores and added 82 yards on the ground and two TDs.
Alvarado got clutch two-way play from RB/LB Demarcus Belton and WR/DB Lance Sansom and AHS kicker Isaiah Sanchez drilled three field goals to propel the Indians to the regional semifinals.
This could be another last team with the ball wins type game and in that scenario, I’m taking Collier and Alvarado.
Stepp’s Pick: Alvarado by 4
