Salinas assumes full-time AD role at Texas A&M-Kingsville

The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas will have a new head coach on the sidelines in 2025 after Michael Salinas was promoted to full-time Athletic Director.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will have a new head coach when the Javelinas open the 2025 season. Michael Salinas was selected to serve as the full-time Executive Director of Athletics. Salinas spent the 2024 season serving as head coach and interim athletic director when Steve Roach left to become the deputy athletic director at NCAA Division I Elon in September.

Salinas will step down as head coach after leading the Javelinas to a 26-19 record in six seasons. An alum of Texas A&M-Kingsville, Salinas led the program to three consecutive seven-win seasons for the first time since 2004.

"I want to thank Dr. Vela for the opportunity to be able to lead the athletic program here," Salinas said in a press release. "I look forward to the opportunity to serve our coaches and student athletes at Texas A&M-Kingsville."

"Coach Salinas has demonstrated a singular commitment to competitive excellence and student success inside the classroom, while honoring the tremendous legacy and tradition associated with Javelina Athletics," Texas A&M-Kingsville President Dr. Robert Vela said. "He is a leader of the highest integrity, and I am confident that, just as he transformed our football program, he will elevate Javelina Athletics to the next level."

Defensive coordinator and safeties coach Jamison Bisch was named interim head coach after guiding one of the top rushing defenses in the country during his last two seasons with the Javelinas. Bisch arrived in Kingsville after spending two years as defensive coordinator at Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico and four years as defensive coordinator at Bemidji State.
