Breaking: Texas A&M loses star running back for season

Texas A&M Aggies head coach Mike Elko said running back Le'Veon Moss, who ranks fourth in the SEC with 906 all-purpose yards, is out for the year with injury.

The tough weekend for Texas A&M rolled over into Monday. Head coach Mike Elko announced star running back Le'Veon Moss sustained a season ending injury on hit in the first quarter of the Aggies 44-20 defeat to South Carolina.

Moss, a junior, leads Texas A&M with 765 rushing yards, the focal point of an Aggies offense that ranks second in the SEC in rushing. He's fourth in the conference with 906 all-purpose yards. Moss is the second Texas A&M running back who's out for the year. The Aggies lost Rueben Owens in preseason camp, and Elko said Monday that Owens isn't on track to return this season.

Elko did not specify whether Texas A&M will move a player into the running back room to make up for Moss's absence. He said the team is confident in Amari Daniels, who has 466 yards and six touchdowns, as the lead back, while graduate transfer EJ Smith will be the primary backup. Elko also said they're still developing five-star freshman Terry Bussey at receiver.

This is a developing story.
