Denton Ryan (4-0, 2-0) at Aledo (4-1, 3-0):
It’s the showdown the entire state’s been waiting for in 5A-Division I as No. 1 Denton Ryan taking on No. 2 Aledo. On the line - Aledo’s state record 122-game district winning streak. Not to mention a possible district title is in the balance. However, both coaches will have to keep in the back of their mind that this could be the first of two meetings in 2024.
Both teams were dominant in their last outing with Denton Ryan blasting past Granbury 63-20. The Raiders scored 56 points in the first half as QB Quin Henigan tossed seven touchdown passes to lead the Ryan onslaught. Granbury was only able to manager 36 yards rushing on the evening.
Aledo was equally dominant in a 63-3 romp over Keller Fossil Ridge. The Bearcats were led by Kaydon Finley, who had 141 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while three different backs found the end zone on the ground. Aledo held Fossil Ridge to just 100 yards of offense on the night.
Denton Ryan pushed Aledo a year ago and the Raiders will without a doubt be a major threat to the streak. But 122 in a row and the game being in Aledo, it’s tough to pick against the Bearcats in this one.
