LIVE Week 4 Non-FBS Blog: UMHB with huge upset, SFA rolls

Live college football updates for Idaho Vandals at Abilene Christian Wildcats, Kilgore Rangers at Navarro Bulldogs, and UMHB Crusaders at UW-Whitewater Warhawks

12:27 a.m. - That ends 12 hours and 27 minutes of consecutive non-FBS coverage. Thank you so much for reading along. I hope you have a great rest of your weekend!

12:24 a.m. - CWU defeats WT 45-3 in a game that saw the start delayed for nearly three hours due to a weather delay. The 2024 schedule is not very kind to the Buffs in any way. They've already played No. 5 Colorado School of Mines, No. 15 Western Colorado, and No. 14 Central Washington. A trip to Western Oregon awaits next week before WT returns home to meet Western New Mexico. To make matters more difficult, WT plays UTPB, at TAMU-Kingsville, MSU, and at Angelo State to close the season.

12:09 a.m. - MSU defeats ENMU 36-15 to improve to 2-1 on the season. Devin Cross (Pflugerville Weiss HS) led MSU with 154 yards and a TD on 21 carries, while Jalen March (Seguin HS) added 132 yards and a TD on 15 attempts. The Mustangs prospects to win the LSC this year will be decided over the next five weeks, with MSU hosting UTPB next week followed by a trip to Texas A&M-Kingsville, consecutive home games against Sul Ross and Angelo State, before finishing the critical stretch with a trip to Central Washington.

12:01 a.m. - As we cross the midnight hour into Sunday, OUAZ finishes a 51-26 victory over Texas College in Surprise, Ariz. Kendrick Connelly completed 29 of 51 passes for 362 yards and three TDs for the Steers, with Terrell Hookfin leading the receiving corps with 181 yards and two TDs on eight receptions. The Spirit clearly remain the better team but this result is another sign of the tremendous work Jarrail Jackson is doing with TC's football program despite facing multiple challenges, including being the head baseball coach in the spring.

11:57 p.m. - Joseph Carlson makes his fifth FG of the game for MSU to extend their lead to 36-15 over ENMU. The Mustangs will need to turn these field goal attempts into touchdowns with a challenging schedule facing MSU over the next five weeks.

11:49 p.m. - CWU leads WT 38-0 with 1:04 remaining in the third quarter. This is only Josh Lynn's second season in Canyon, but this isn't the start that Buffs fans expected when he was hired. Lynn deserves time to get his players and culture in the program. However, WT fans aren't known for being patient. Why should they be patient when they have some of the best facilities in Division II?

11:32 p.m. - Score updates:

MSU 33, ENMU 15 Mid 3rd

CWU 31, WT 0 Mid 3rd

OUAZ 51, Texas College 26 Early 4th

11:26 p.m. - Ryan Melton (Austin Peay) intercepts the ENMU pass and returns it 59 yards for a TD to extend MSU's lead to 33-8 with 7:36 remaining in the third quarter.

11:13 p.m. - The MSU defense forces a turnover and Jalen March (Seguin HS) scores from one-yard out to give the Mustangs a 26-8 lead over ENMU with 14:10 left in the third quarter.

11:12 p.m. - CWU perfectly executed an onside kick after their last TD, which resulted in a FG for the Wildcats. CWU leads WT 24-0 at the half. The Buffs have been limited to 95 total yards and turned the ball over twice in the opening half.

11:08 p.m. - Joseph Carlson (Frisco Wakeland/Air Force) hit a 48-yard FG to give MSU a 19-8 lead at the half over Eastern N.M. The game will quickly move into the second half due to the extended weather delay.

10:59 p.m. - WT's offense finally found some rhythm on offense but a poorly thrown pass was intercepted by the Cliff Harris Award Winner, Tanner Volk, who returned the ball 76 yards for a pick-6 to give CWU a 21-0 lead over WT. That is not the momentum the Buffs were hoping for heading into the locker room.

10:52 p.m. - CWU has controlled the game against WT to this point, but two missed FG attempts keep the Buffs within striking range late in the second quarter.

10:25 p.m. - We have three games remaining, with two currently in progress tonight. Central Washington leads WT 14-0 late in the first quarter and OUAZ leads Texas College 45-12 at the half in Arizona. MSU at ENMU remains in a weather delay.

10:22 p.m. - ACU's comeback attempt falls just short as Idaho escapes with a 27-24 win. Maverick McIvor (San Angelo Central HS) completed 26 of 46 passes for 288 yards and two TDs. He did throw his first two interceptions of the season against the Vandals. However, this was a tremendous showing by ACU. Keith Patterson is quickly developing a program that not only can contend in the United Athletic Conference but nationally as proven tonight

10:19 p.m. - Angelo State earns a 21-0 victory at Western New Mexico. Braeden Fuller (Floresville HS) led the Rams offense by completing 23 of 38 passes for 222 yards and two TDs.

10:18 p.m. - Another late LSC contest in a weather delay is MSU at ENMU. The Mustangs lead 16-8 with 44 seconds remaining in the first half.

10:14 p.m. - It's not over in Abilene as ACU will get the ball back with around a minute remaining and a chance to upset No. 4 Idaho.

10:08 p.m. - Texas Wesleyan remains undefeated in the Sooner Athletic Conference following a 49-21 road victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Rams were led by Carson Rodgers (Houston St. Pius X), who completed 20 of 30 passes for 276 yards and three TDs, while Ernest Ceasar III (Beaumont East Chambers HS) added 164 yards and three TDs on the ground.

10:05 p.m. - SFA with a dominating 48-7 win over Northern Colorado. The Lumberjacks were led by Sam Vidlak, who completed 16 of 26 passes for 219 yards and three TDs. The 'Jacks will need to continue to play each game with the intensity and focus they displayed tonight for the remainder of the season with very little room for error remaining for a playoff berth.

10:03 p.m. - Blinn loses a hard-fought 21-16 affair at New Mexico Military Institute. Good job by the coaches and players to prevent a fight at the end of the game.

10:01 p.m. - PVAMU had the ball at the one-yard line with a first down but consecutive rushing plays ending in a loss of yards and an offensive pass interference pushed the Panthers to the 25-yard line, which resulted in two incompletions to end the game. Southern earns a 31-24 win over PVAMU, who is now in an 0-2 hole in the SWAC West Division.

10:00 p.m. - ACU is not going quietly as they pull within 27-24 with 3:47 left in the fourth quarter against Idaho.

9:53 p.m. - No. 5 Kilgore shows they remain a threat to win the national title with an impressive 23-13 win at No. 6. Navarro. These teams could meet again in the SWJCFC playoffs.

9:46 p.m. - Southern strikes with a quick TD in OT to take a 31-24 lead. Let's see if the Panthers can respond.

9:42 p.m. - PVAMU's 52-yard game-winning FG attempt is blocked by Southern and they're headed to OT!

9:39 p.m. - Notable performances for HPU tonight with QB Zy Gravitt (Wichita Falls HS) completing 12 of 18 passes for 316 yards and two TDs. Gus Charles (Houston Davis HS/Sul Ross) caught five passes for 139 yards to lead the Yellow Jackets receiving corps.

9:36 p.m. - We have LSC after dark with WT and Central Washington scheduled to kick at 9:50 p.m. following a weather delay.

9:29 p.m. - Other final scores:

Sacramento State 34, Texas A&M-Commerce 0

Howard Payne 41, Lyon 14

McMurry 31, Texas Lutheran 10

Centenary 36, Austin 17

9:26 p.m. - Southern has come back to tie PVAMU at 24 with 2:32 left in regulation. The Panthers offense will have the ball following the kickoff.

9:22 p.m. - Tarleton opens United Athletic Conference action with a 28-14 win at North Alabama. The Lions gave the Texans a test before Kayvon Britten took the game over. The UAPB transfer finished with 273 yards and four touchdowns on 21 attempts for an impressive 13-yard average per carry. The Texans will need more from Victor Gabalis and the passing attack to continue winning in the UAC. However, Gabalis had thumb surgery three weeks ago, and may not be 100 percent for another month or longer.

9:21 p.m. - Kilgore continues to pull away from Navarro and the Rangers have scored 20 of the game's last 23 points. The Bulldogs need an answer soon with 10:21 remaining in the fourth quarter.

9:19 p.m. - Nelson cruises to a 39-8 Sooner Athletic Conference victory over Arkansas Baptist. The Lions were led by Marvin Sanders, who had 109 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

9:16 p.m. - Texas A&M-Kingsville delivers a massive blow to UTPB with a 20-14 victory in Midland. Roger Hagan (North Shore HS) gained 121 yards rushing on 27 carries to lead the Javelinas offense. The Falcons were held to 46 yards rushing in the contest and couldn't get much going through the air.

9:13 p.m. - Haden Tessier brings Navarro within 16-13 of Kilgore with a 48-yard FG with 12:41 remaining in regulation.

9:07 p.m. - UIW defeats Northern Arizona 38-14. The Cardinals didn't play their best in the first half but finished the game by scoring the final 31 points for the victory. Dekalon Taylor (Longview) finished with 190 yards and two TDs rushing, returned one punt for 13 yards, and was credited with seven tackles for UIW.

9:04 p.m. - Lamar survives a scare with a 20-17 victory. It wasn't the kind of performance that Peter Rossomando was hoping for from his Cardinals but he'll be happy they will learn after a win. Meanwhile, another solid showing by Texas Southern under first-year head coach Cris Dishman.

9:00 p.m. - Huge stop in the red zone for Navarro's defense forces Kilgore to kick a FG. The Rangers lead the Bulldogs 16-10 with 1:31 left in the third quarter.

8:57 p.m. - Big time TD for Khalan Griffin, who gives Lamar a 20-17 lead over TSU with 1:05 left in regulation. Big test for the Tigers offense with one timeout remaining.

8:55 p.m. - Texas Southern at Lamar is coming down to the wire with the Tigers leading 17-13.

8:48 p.m. - Gary Maddox (Euless Trinity HS) give Kilgore its first lead of the game at 13-10 with a nine-yard TD run midway through the third quarter.

8:39 p.m. - Idaho takes a 20-3 lead into the half at ACU. The Vandals are a legit national contender, who nearly beat Oregon and defeated Wyoming earlier this season.

8:25 p.m.- Score update:

Nelson 39, Ark. Baptist 0 Mid 4th

Texas Wesleyan 21, OPSU 7 Late 1st

Navarro 10, Kilgore 6 Halftime

8:18 p.m. - Then again, why would you pass the ball when you have Kayvon Britten, who now has 223 yards and three TDs on 13 carries (17.2 yards per carry). He has TD runs of 95 and 65 yards for the Texans.

8:17 p.m. - North Alabama ties the game with Tarleton at 14 midway through the third quarter. Texans QB Victor Gabalis returned tonight after suffering an injured hand in the first half against McNeese. However, the passing game has been nonexistent for Tarleton.

8:15 p.m. - No. 6 Navarro leads No. 5 Kilgore 10-6 at the half in a game that has lived up to the billing through one half.

8:02 p.m. - Angelo State's offense continues to struggle, but the Rams have a 7-0 lead late in the first half over Western N.M.

8:00 p.m. - Kilgore is on the board following a 95-yard punt return for a TD by Melvin Polk (Weatherford HS). However, the Rangers trail Navarro 10-6 after the snap on the PAT was low, forcing a mad scramble and an eventual interception.

7:58 p.m. - It's good to see PVAMU's offense get going in the second quarter to take a 14-3 lead over Southern at halftime.

7:57 p.m. - UTPB needs only one minute and eight seconds to score in the second half with Dylan Graham finding Ben Patterson (Fort Worth All Saints) for a 71-yard TD to pull the Falcons within 17-14 of TAMUK early in the third.

7:55 p.m. - UIW has a bit of breathing room now, leading 24-14 against Northern Arizona. The offense marched down the field for a TD on the opening drive of the second half.

7:53 p.m. - This is the SFA team I expected to see this season. The 'Jacks have absolutely dominated UNC in the first half and lead 28-0 with 9:23 left in the 2nd quarter. SFA's offense has 266 total yards in the game's first 20 minutes.

7:37 p.m. - Idaho takes a 14-0 lead with some trickeration on a reverse pass. It's nice to see Wildcat Stadium full! A great crowd of around 12,000 on hand tonight!

7:30 p.m. - Navarro extends the lead to 10-0 over Kilgore with 1:22 remaining in the first quarter.

7:24 p.m. - Another look at scores of the games entering halftime:

PVAMU 7, Southern 3 Mid 2nd

UIW 17, N. Arizona 14 Half

Sacramento St. 20, TAMU-Commerce 0 Half

Tarleton 7, N. Alabama 6 Half

Howard Payne 38, Lyon 0 Half

Centenary 9, Austin 3 Early 3rd

Nelson 30, Arkansas Baptist 0 Half

Texas Wesleyan at Oklahoma Panhandle State is experiencing issues with the stat program.

7:21 p.m. - Texas Southern leads Lamar 10-0 at the half as the Cardinals are coming off a big win over No. 25 Weber State and entering the rankings this week. Learning how to handle success is a real thing for teams not used to experiencing success. That's where Lamar currently sits under Peter Rossomando. However, this is part of the learning process and not something to be concerned about.

7:20 p.m. - Navarro strikes first with a FG to take a 3-0 lead over Kilgore midway through the first quarter.

7:18 p.m. - Texas A&M-Kingsville leads UTPB 17-7 at the half and have dominated both sides of the ball. The Javelinas have 173 total yards of offense while the defense has held the Falcons to 103 yards.

7:17 p.m. - UIW ties the game against N. Arizona at 14 in a game that is much closer than anticipated.

7:13 p.m. - McMurry 24, TLU 3 Halftime

The War Hawks have dominated this contest from the start, led by a defense that has held the Bulldogs to 77 total yards in the first half.

7:08 p.m. - SFA gets off to a quick start with an 8-play, 75-yard drive to take an early 7-0 lead over Northern Colorado.

6:56 p.m. - Tarleton 7, N. Alabama 3  9:05 2nd

Kayvon Britten takes advantage of a huge hole to race for a 96-yard TD to put the Texans on the board.

6:47 p.m. - Texas A&M-Kingsville 17, UTPB 0  10:12 2nd

The Javelinas are making a statement early in Midland against the reigning Lone Star Conference champions. TAMUK QB Teague Sedtal (Deer Park HS) has a rushing TD and a 28-yard passing TD to CJ Thompson (Arlington/Yale).

5:40 p.m. - UTSA 45, Houston Christian 7 Final

AJ Wilson (Huntsville HS) catches four passes for 71 yards to lead HCU's offense and Zavion Evans led the defense with six tackles and one sack. The Huskies have played two FBS teams (SMU and UTSA) and No. 20 Tarleton thus far. It's safe to say they will be ready for Southland competition. However, they have another road game at Indiana State next week before conference play.

5:07 p.m. - Cisco 34, No. 10 Trinity Valley 30 Final

The Wranglers sack the QB on the final play of the game and two plays after the Cardinals overthrew a wide-open receiver in the back right corner of the end zone. Cisco opens SWJCFC action with a victory, while TVCC has lost SWJCFC road games in consecutive weeks. The Wranglers travel to meet No. 5 Kilgore next week while TVCC will try to get right when they host Air Force Prep next Friday. Live stats are unavailable.

4:28 p.m. - Western Oregon 39, Sul Ross 17 Final

Carson Workman (Hendrickson HS) led the Lobos rushing attack with 72 yards and a TD on two attempts and Tucker Bridwell (Pampa HS/Howard Payne) connected with Yamil Oaxaca (Montwood HS/UTEP) for a 14-yard TD. SRSU continues Lone Star Conference play next week with a trip to Texas A&M-Kingsville.

4:17 p.m. - No. 10 TVCC 20, Cisco 20 End 3rd

The Cardinals are threatening inside the Wranglers 15-yard line to open the final period in regulation.

4:11 p.m. - UTSA 31, Houston Christian 7 Halftime

Jesse Valenzuela (Ventura College) scored the Huskies TD with a 20-yard run. Eli Brickhandler (North Carolina A&T) leads the HCU passing attack, completing 5 of 8 passes for 75 yards.

4:06 p.m. - Hendrix 35, Southwestern 20 Final

The Pirates pulled within two midway through the third quarter before the Warriors passing attack found its rhythm once again. SU was led by Christian Reeves (Highland Park HS), who led the rushing attack with 69 yards and a TD on eight carries. Jameel Martin (Cleveland HS) shined on defense with 12 tackles (11 solo), one tackle for loss, one interception, and broke up two passes to lead Soutwestern's defense.

3:48 p.m. - Mary Hardin-Baylor 35, No. 3 Wisconsin-Whitewater 17 Final

The Cru pull off the massive upset on the road over the Warhawks! Kamerin Ferguson (Decatur/Southwest Baptist) gained 112 yards and a TD on six rushing attempts, AJ Williams III (Spring HS) added 100 yards and a TD receiving, and the defense finishes with five interceptions for UMHB. Da'marion Morris (Little Cypress HS) finishes with 10 tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, including one returned for a TD to lead the Cru. Is UMHB back? Look for that discussion in Four Downs on Monday.

3:24 p.m. - No. 10 Trinity Valley 13, Cisco 13 Halftime

The Cardinals with a big goalline stand stand to keep the game tied heading into the break. There are no stats available for his game.

3:08 p.m. - Hendrix 22, Southwestern 20  6:02 3rd

J.P. Reyes (Goliad HS) pulls the Pirates closer with a pick-6. SU has scored 20 of the last 27 points in the contest.

2:59 p.m. - UMHB 35, No. 3 UW-Whitewater 10  8:00 3rd

The Crusaders add to their lead with a 96-yard TD run by Kamerin Ferguson (Decatur/Southwest Baptist), who found room on the left side of the Warhawks defense and outraced the defensive backs to the end zone.

2:37 p.m. - Western Oregon 18, Sul Ross 3 Halftime

The Lobos offense struggled to execute inside the Wolves 30-yard line, with three drives resulting in a field goal by Carlos Arreola (Clint HS), a missed field goal, and a turnover on downs. QB Andrew Martinez (El Paso Eastwood HS) leads SRSU with 77 yards passing and 25 yards rushing.

2:33 p.m. - Trinity 16, Washington & Lee 10 Final

The Tigers will have plenty to work on after watching the tape of this game. The good news is they'll be watching following a win. Trinity has a solid defense, but the offense remains a work in progress. The Tigers open SAA action next week at Centre.

2:23 p.m. - Hendrix 22, Southwestern 13 Halftime

Touchdowns by Christian Reeves ( and Leroy Rodriguez ( has kept the Pirates in a game that has seen the Warriors outgain Southwestern 300-177 in the first half. Individual stats are not available at this time.

2:17 p.m. - Mary Hardin-Baylor 28, No. 3 Wisconsin-Whitewater 7 Halftime

Isaac Phe hit Asa Osbourn (Denison HS/Navarro/Oklahoma State) for an 11-yard TD to give the Cru a 21-point lead heading into the half. It was a crazy half of football featuring eight turnovers, including five forced by the UMHB defense. Neither team's rushing attack has gained any traction with UMHB gaining five yards on 12 attempts, and the Warhawks rushing for 41 yards on 21 attempts. UMHB needs its offense to hang onto the ball and its special teams unit to shine. UWW's lone TD came on a blocked punt.

1:35 p.m. - UMHB 21, UW-Whitewater 0  1:01 1st

An incredible diving catch by AJ Williams III pushes the Cru lead to three touchdowns early. Isaac Phe put it where only Williams would catch it for a 30-yard TD.

1:20 p.m. - UMHB 14, UW-Whitewater 0  8:36 1st

Talk about a great start for the UMHB defense! Three interceptions on three possessions for UW-W's offense, including two pick 6's! Da'marion Morris has the last two INTs and returned the second one for a TD.

1:10 p.m. - UMHB 7, UW-Whitewater 0  12:44 1st

The Crusaders defense strikes first with an impressive series of downs that ends with a pick-6 by Durand Hill (Buda Hays HS).

1:05 p.m. - Trinity 16, Washington & Lee 7 Halftime

Jerheme Urban is making very conservative decisions today, as evidenced by choosing to kick a field goal when facing a fourth and goal at the two-yard line in the first half and on a fourth and goal from the one-yard line late in the half. The Tigers lone touchdown was scored by Johnny Milo (Caney Creek HS) on a six-yard run.

12:31 p.m. - Washington & Lee 7, Trinity 6  12:22 2nd

It hasn't been a good start for the Tigers offense. Tyler Huettel (McKinney HS) has kicked FGs from 18 and 45 yards for Trinity, while the Generals benefitted from a pick-6 to take the lead. The Generals are giving the Tigers offensive line problems thus far. Jerheme Urban didn't show confidence in his offense on its first drive after electing for a field goal when facing a fourth down at the two-yard line.

11:00 a.m. - Good morning and welcome into the Week 4 non-FBS live blog! The action gets started at noon when Trinity hosts Washington & Lee.
