Marquee Matchup: Harlingen South (1-1) at Corpus Christi Flour Bluff (2-0)

Preview and prediction for the Harlingen South Hawks vs. Corpus Christi Flour Bluff Hornets, featuring Austin Shroyer, Jayden Paluseo, and Cameran Dickson.

Harlingen South (1-1) at Corpus Christi Flour Bluff (2-0)

Harlingen South heads north to open up 15-5A Division I play after the Hawks dropped their annual “Bird Bowl” showdown with Harlingen High, 29-24. QB Austin Shroyer threw a touchdown pass and ran for another score in the loss, as the Hawks dug themselves an early 14-0 hole that proved to be too much to overcome.

Flour Bluff has been dominant early in the year with two straight blowout wins, including last week’s 40-0 win over San Antonio Marshall. QB Jayden Paluseo tossed four first-half touchdown passes to lead the Hornets, and two of those scores went to Vanderbilt commit WR Cameran Dickson, while the Bluff defense held Marshall to under 150 yards of offense.

Early in the year, Bluff has showed to be the class of the district and they are beginning to threaten earning a spot in the state rankings. At home, they’ll have a bit too much for Harlingen South, who should still manage to challenge for a playoff spot.
