Inside the Commitment: How a surprise plane landing led Preztynn Harrison to Texas Tech

Mineral Wells Rams 2025 tight end Preztynn Harrison reveals how Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire and running backs coach Kenny Perry teamed up to win his commitment.

On Janurary 22, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire's plane had to land prematurely due to foggy conditions. He responded by landing Class of 2025 four-star tight end Preztynn Harrison.

The plane touched down near Mineral Wells, so McGuire shot over to the high school and joined up with running backs coach Kenny Perry to offer Harrison in person. Not only was it Harrison's first offer - it was the first time a head coach had taken the time to get to know him.

“No head coach ever came to me like that,” Harrison said. “Even from the other colleges, they send someone else. But the head coach came and actually offered me.”

Harrison piled up four more offers after Texas Tech opened the door for other colleges. But the power of McGuire's first impression was too strong to sway Harrison.

“All the other coaches came in, and I was like, ‘Nah, I’m going to stick with Texas Tech,’” Harrison.

Harrison, a 6-foot-6, 214-pound tight end, was a First Team All-District selection in both football and basketball as a junior. He's not married to playing tight end in college, however. The Red Raiders are recruiting him as a true athlete.

“They honestly don’t know (where I'll play),” Harrison said. “I can play receiver, linebacker, tight end - everything.”

Harrison says Texas Tech sold him on the championship roster they're putting together, and he says the Class of 2025 they're assembling is backing that up. He shouted out Stephenville four-star receiver Tristian Gentry as a guy he's excited to play with.
