Standouts and recruiting notes from the first day of the 2024 Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament, including Yoakum 2026 ATH Xzavier Barnett, Austin LBJ’s Yaheim Riley, Panther Creek 2025 ATH Sentel Simpson and Hitchcock WR Kelshaun Johnson.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Big recruiting news and relevant prospect notes from Thursday's action at the 2024 Texas 7-on-7 State Tournament.

Recruiting News

  • Austin LBJ’s Yaheim Riley has six offers and Arizona State and Texas Tech are recruiting him the most feverishly in the early going. He is also hearing from schools like Oklahoma and Texas. (Greg Powers)
  • Yoakum 2026 ATH Xzavier Barnett has FBS offers from Houston, SMU, UTSA and Mississippi State, but his recruitment may be about to take off nationally as he reports that he is hearing from an abundance of elite colleges. An offer from the Texas Longhorns would be major in his recruitment. "The vibe over there is what I'm looking for," Barnett said. • Panther Creek 2025 ATH Sentel Simpson is one of the more intriguing prospects in the cycle because he has legit offers to play five different positions - Safety, OLB, RB, WR and DE. Right now, he’s considering offers from Texas State, UTEP, UTSA, Sam Houston and Pitt. He’d like to have e a decision before the start of his senior season. (Powers)
  • Hitchcock 2025 WR Kelshaun Johnson is down to Texas A&M, Texas, USC, Arkansas and Texas Tech. He is still setting a commitment date but is tentatively circling July 8. Johnson rocked Texas A&M cleats on Thursday and said WR Coach Holmon Wiggins has invited him to one-on-one meetings in his office. Johnson said Wiggins calls him almost daily and also checks on his mother, which is important to the receiver. Johnson also shouted out Texas WR coach Chris Jackson and said playing in Sark’s offense is a huge draw. Johnson has also visited Texas Tech with quarterback and longtime friend Lloyd “Chubby” Jones III, a Red Raider commit. He says Lubbock always has good vibes. (Carter Yates)

Prospect Notes and Evaluations

  • It was our first opportunity to see Frisco Panther Creek four-star Jalen Lott, who was mainly playing out of the slot. And it looks like he is quickly becoming a go-to weapon. It looks like he’s grown at least an inch and his long arms were made for hauling in passes. We will be adding one inch to his recruiting profile. With around 35 offers, he’s one of the most heavily-offered prospects in his class. USC, Texas and Texas A&M are three schools we feel strongly will be in the hunt until the end. (Powers)
