- Abilene Christian and Stephen F. Austin filled some non-conference holes in their football and men’s basketball schedules by announcing the continuation of their in-state rivalry. The Wildcats travel to SFA for football in 2024, and the ‘Jacks make the trip to Abilene in 2025. ACU will host the Lumberjacks men’s basketball team during the upcoming 2024-2025 season, while SFA will host the Wildcats during the 2025-2026 campaign. The series helps fill holes left by SFA’s recent return to the Southland Conference.
- Texas Southern quarterback Jace Wilson has been invited to participate in the Manning Passing Academy, which will begin June 27 in Thibodaux, Louisiana. “I didn’t believe it for one second when (Archie Manning) reached out,” Wilson, the 2023 SWAC Newcomer of the Year, told HBCU Legends in a story. Wilson will be a counselor for the kids' camp and learn from Peyton and Eli Manning during the camp.

- Multiple sources indicate that West Texas A&M is down to three finalists in its search for an athletic director. Among the finalists are a current athletic director in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, a current Lone Star Conference athletic director, and an internal candidate currently serving as a senior associate athletic director.
- Other sources indicate that on-campus visits have yet to occur, and some hesitancy remains about the finalists. Some influential supporters close to the university were surprised that more candidates did not apply for the position and are seeking to ensure WT makes the best choice for future success.
- UTPB head coach Kris McCullough spent little time elevating Kenny Hrncir to co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. McCullough believes Hrncir will quickly rise through the coaching ranks after leading the Falcons to the Lone Star Conference title last season.
- Hrncir appeared on the Republic of Football on Wednesday at noon to discuss his new position. He was far more comfortable during the interview this week than during the LSC Media Day last July. Over the past year, Hrncir has conducted multiple interviews with media in Odessa and Midland, and that training was evident during the interview with Ishmael Johnson and Carter Yates.

- McMurry continued to announce members of its 2024 recruiting class, including quarterback Cayden Garcia (Abilene Cooper), wide receiver Ty Lovelady (Troup), defensive back Mason McWilliams (Benbrook), offensive lineman Aidan Paxton (Pearland), defensive back Kevion Williams (Angelo State), kicker and punter Jax Rodriguez (Lago Vista), and quarterback Brody Sutton (Eustace).
- Multiple sources have confirmed that East Texas Baptist wide receivers coach Jaylon Jackson is no longer on the coaching staff. Last year was Jackson's first as a collegiate coach after spending six years as a wide receiver and special teams standout at Colorado. The Cedar Hill product helped lead the Longhorns to state football titles in 2013 and 2014.
NAIA
- Expectations surrounding the Texas Wesleyan football program are high after Joe Prud’homme led the program to back-to-back Sooner Athletic Conference titles. It’s important to remember the Rams program was restarted in 2017. It’s now up to Brad Sherrod to lead the Rams to an outright SAC title and appearance in the NAIA playoffs, a significant task for a first-time head coach. However, Sherrod credits his experience on staff with K.C. Keeler at Sam Houston and Jeff Traylor at UTSA for being prepared to lead Texas Wesleyan.
