Pilot Point alum Chad Worrell is headed back home to take over as Pilot Point High School's athletic director and head football coach.

Worrell, who was Burleson's head coach, will be the Bearcats fourth head coach in the past four seasons as there’s been a serious lack of stability at the once proud program that has fallen on hard times.

“I grew up in Pilot Point," Worrell said. "Part of my heart has always been there. We had some great battles with Pilot Point when I was at Brock and I always had a ton of respect for them when I competed against them."

Worrell has a stellar career record of 158-57, including leading Brock to the 3A-Division I state title in 2015. He also led the Eagles to a state title appearance in 2017. Worrell has 18 total seasons of experience as a head coach at Tom Bean, Hamlin, San Angelo Grape Creek, Brock, El Campo and 2023 at Burleson.

"I love the community," he said. "Taking this job makes it a little more personal for me because this is the community I grew up in and the reason I’m in coaching is because of Pilot Point. I feel like this is my last job and turning this place around would be a great cap on my career and bring things full circle."

Burleson athletic director Kevin Ozee will again be searching for a head coach at Burleson High as the Elks will be on their third head coach in three seasons.
