Six programs will represent Texas in the men’s NCAA Tournament following Sunday’s bracket reveal.
Houston earned the second overall seed in the Field of 68 after a Big 12 regular season championship in its first season in the new conference. The Cougars were thoroughly handled by Iowa State in the Big 12 conference championship but their body of work was enough to maintain their No. 1 seed status. They’ll face Longwood coached by Griff Aldrich, who’s reportedly a candidate for the Rice job.
The committee surprised many by picking Texas A&M as a No. 9 seed. The Aggies draw Nebraska in the Round of 32, setting a potential rematch with Houston who narrowly beat the Aggies in the regular season. Texas Tech picked up a No. 6 seed in Grant McCasland’s first year in Lubbock and will face a red-hot NC State who went on a Cinderella run to win the ACC Championship.
TCU was on the bubble but is in as a No. 9 seed in the Midwest Region. They’ll draw Utah State in the Round of 32. Texas was firmly in but the only question was what seed. A No. 7 seed was revealed for Texas with their opponent yet to be determined between Virginia and Colorado State in a First Four play-in game on Wednesday.
Baylor was the final Texas team announced with a No. 3 seed in the West region. The Bears will face Colgate from Patriots League.
