Texas A&M-Commerce defensive back Max Epps became the first player in any sport to win a National Player of the Week honor in the Lions Division I era. The Spring native was named the FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against FBS Old Dominion.
Epps recorded two interceptions, four tackles, and one pass breakup during a 10-9 road setback to FBS Old Dominion. He leads the FCS with 150 interception return yards this year and is tied for the FCS lead in interceptions with four this season.
The Dekaney High School product was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week earlier Monday. He is the first Lions player to receive a weekly honor from the conference this year.
