Rice Gets a Big Commit from Plano East Three-Star QB Drew Devillier

Rice has found its future quarterback in 6-foot-5 flame-thrower Drew Devillier from Plano East, who has been compared to Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen.

Plano East 2024 QB Drew Devillier (6'5, 210) committed to Rice over offers from Pittsburgh, Sam Houston, North Texas, UIW and more.

Devillier, who was once committed to play baseball only at TCU, will be a dual-sport athlete for the Owls.

"I've been at places with great players, Poteet, then Spruce and Woodrow, but never really came across a division one quarterback, so he's a one-of-a-kind for me," said Plano East head coach Tony Benedetto.

"The first thing when you describe Drew is to talk about him being poised. When he comes to the sidelines, you would not know whether he threw a touchdown or an interception. He is very much about that next-play mentality. I think that comes from his baseball background; being a pitcher, he must always be poised for the next pitch. That comes to mind right away and that is going to bode well for him when he moves onto college."

On the field, Devillier has developed into one of the state's top prospects, securing three-star status on Dave Campbell's Texas Football and getting some lofty comparisons by college programs that have stopped by Plano East to evaluate him.

"The biggest thing he has wanted to do is run the ball better, and this offseason, he's gotten a lot faster; I think he ran a 4.66 40 at a UNT camp," Benedetto said. "If he adds that to his game, then I think he will be very hard stop."

"I know a lot of colleges are trying to compare him to a Josh Allen. A big, strong-armed quarterback who is kinda under the radar a little bit how Allen was when he went to Wyoming. I've never seen him play, but that's a cool comparison."

Rice Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks Marques Tuiasosopo was a factor in Devillier's decision-making process.

"The quarterback coach did a really good job recruiting him, and when I met with him this morning before he committed, he said that coach Tuiasosopo just really made him feel comfortable and that they run a lot of the same concepts that we run and that made him want to go to Rice over some of the other schools."
