Midwestern State has selected Brenita Jackson as the women’s basketball program’s 12th head coach. After spending two successful years at Texas Wesleyan, Jackson arrives in Wichita Falls, hoping to turn another program into a winner.

Jackson led the Lady Rams to an incredible 52-13 record during her two seasons in charge, including two appearances in the NAIA national tournament. Under Jackson’s leadership, TxWes had two of the best seasons in program history. The Lady Rams finished this year with a 27-6 record and the program’s first appearance in the NAIA quarterfinals. TxWes also set a program record for most wins in a row, with 17 during the 2022-2023 campaign.

Jackson finished her first season in Fort Worth with a 25-7 record and was named the 2021-2022 John Hudson Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Rams to a 24-win improvement in her first season.

Jackson and her husband, Kevin, have a history of turning women’s basketball programs into winners. Brenita was promoted to head coach at her alma mater, Lon Morris College, in 2010 and led the program to its most wins in a season (19) while finishing as runner-up in the Region XIV Championship.

After Lon Morris College shut down in 2012, Jackson headed to San Jacinto College. The duo led San Jacinto to a 23-9 record and the program’s first national ranking in history, climbing as high as ninth in the NJCAA DI Women’s Basketball poll and netting Jackson Region XIV Coach of the Year honors in 2015.

Jackson and her husband have coached six players that earned All-American honors, including Kertisa Amos, who etched her name in the Texas Wesleyan record books by scoring over 1,000 points in two seasons. 

The duo spent eight years building the KBJ Academy, which offers consulting, basketball skills training, camps, and team-building retreats nationwide. Together, they have helped over 4,500 students and coached AAU basketball in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The duo published a book, “Play College Basketball,” in 2021 and are hosts of two different podcasts, “Hoops with KBJ” and “Coffee with KBJ.” Jackson owns a business management degree from Southeastern Louisiana and a Masters in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University.

Jackson is tasked with turning around an MSU program that finished the 2022-2023 season with a 6-22 overall record and a 4-18 finish in Lone Star Conference action.
