Round Rock ISD on Friday afternoon officially promoted Round Rock High defensive coordinator Cody Moore to the position of head football coach at Round Rock High School. Coach Moore steps in to replace highly successful head coach Jeff Cheatham who was promoted to Round Rock ISD athletic director in March.
Moore, who is just 37 years old, is a native of Comfort who played his college football at TCU has spent the past four seasons as the Dragon’s defensive coordinator. Prior to that he spent four seasons at Stephenville as the defensive coordinator and he also had a stint as an assistant coach on staff at Flower Mound.
Moore takes over a Round Rock squad that posted a 9-2 mark a year ago and has expectations in most seasons.
“I’m completely honored to be in this position," he said. "I’m overwhelmed to serve the kids and community at Round Rock High School. There’s a deep tradition here and I want to continue it."
Even though Coach Moore has moved up to head coach, his boss hasn’t changed as his former head coach Jeff Cheatham now oversees all of RRISD athletics.
“Coach Cheatham, I’ve learned so much from him," Moore said. "He has been a huge mentor the past four years and has included me in a lot of decisions around the program and I think that has set me up for success to not only get this position, but be successful."
