Lewisville ISD announced the hiring of Grapevine head coach Mike Alexander as the next head football coach at Flower Mound Marcus on Friday.
He'll replaces Kevin Atkinson, who announced his retirement last month.
“I’ve always felt like Marcus was a very good 6A job," Alexander said. "Watching their kids compete, I’ve always been impressed with them and their demeanor. I’ve had a lot of respect for that program going back to Que Brittan.
Alexander has spent the past eight seasons at Grapevine High School, six of which he served as the Mustangs head coach putting together an impressive 55-21 record. He led Grapevine to the 5A-Division II regional finals in 2020 and led the Mustangs to the regional semifinals in 2018, 2021 and 2022.
Alexander, who is a native of Rockwall, played collegiately at Arkansas Tech and his coaching journey began at Arkansas Tech where he spent one season as a graduate assistant. Coach Alexander then joined Texas High School Football where he spent two seasons as an assistant on staff at Garland Lakeview Centennial. Alexander then went out west to Abilene High for four seasons where he coached the Eagles defensive backs. He returned home to Rockwall after that stint out west and he spent six seasons as the defensive coordinator at Rockwall High.
Alexander got his first chance to be a head coach in 2011 at Mount Vernon.
“Lewisville ISD was first-class throughout the process," he said. "The timing was just right for us. "It’s kind of a natural progression and I’ve always wanted to coach at the highest levels of Texas High School Football. I had an incredible experience at Grapevine. This community is second to none and it’s been an unreal journe. I’m just ready to sharpen the axe once again and I’m fired up to get started."
