Arlington – Wednesday night at AT&T Stadium saw two of the more historical power programs of the small school classifications collide in the 2A DII State Championship. In the end, it was Albany that topped small school powerhouse Mart, 41-21, to claim their first state title since 1961. Giving head coach Denny Faith his first in 36 years with the program.
Albany 2023 ATH Coy Lefevre (6’1, 200):
Lefevre’s stat line may not blow box score readers away, but his fingerprints were left all over the scoreboard with four scores on the ground and an impressive interception of sorts as well on defense. Being recognized with Offensive MVP honors for the game.
Scouting Report:
The obvious is that Lefevre’s high school career concluded Wednesday night. However, en route to the 2A DII State Championship Lefevre accumulated 1,074 yards on the ground with 19 touchdowns in 2022. Averaging close to first down per carry. Lefevre provides solid size and a muscled-up body that gives opposing players at the small school levels trouble. His skillset varies as he provides a Swiss Army knife-type set of tools on both sides of the ball. Taking snaps at running back, receiver and linebacker. What stands out on film is his elusiveness in short area circumstances, along with his start-stop quickness. His hands are also notable for catching balls out of the backfield and out wide. Making the hard efforts look easy. He’s not the smoothest runner but he runs really hard, and to add context he recorded an 11.04 100M time last April in the UIL 2A Region II Meet. Overall a great utility threat that can play multiple positions at the next level.
This is the type of prospect that can be perfect for a late senior evaluation for smaller colleges looking for a guy who can fit several needs. Games like Wednesday night’s variety are how guys like Lefevre cement their legacy at the high school level while also gathering more eyeballs on their abilities.
Mart 2025 RB JD Bell (5’10, 190):
Bell rushed for a hard-fought 97 yards and a score for the Panthers in a losing effort. Despite the somewhat tamed effort, Bell was able to showcase some of his abilities on the big stage in the nightcap.
