Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has learned that Clint Dolezel will be named the next head coach at Texas A&M-Commerce.
Dolezel is a graduate of Texas A&M-Commerce and was a multi-sport standout for the Lions at quarterback in football and a member of the track and field and golf teams. He led the Lions to an 8-2 record and a second-place finish in the Lone Star Conference during his junior season. He finished his career at Commerce with 3,152 yards and 23 touchdowns in two seasons and was inducted into the A&M-Commerce Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.
Dolezel is a veteran coach in the Arena Football League and has been the head coach of the Frisco Fighters since 2020. He was the head coach of the Philadelphia Soul from 2013-2019 and guided the Soul to back-to-back Arena Bowl titles in 2016 and 2017. He also led the Beijing Lions to an undefeated season and a China Bowl championship in China Arena Football League’s inaugural season.
The Waco native inherits a Texas A&M-Commerce program that is in its first year of transition from NCAA Division II to FCS. The Lions finished 2022 with a 5-6 record, including an impressive 31-28 road victory over Southeastern Louisiana. Former head coach David Bailiff departed after the season when the Lions were unable to come to an agreement on a contract extension. FootballScoop was first to report.
