The Houston Cougars opened the college football season in dramatic fashion with road win in triple overtime over UTSA, 37-35. Cougars quarterback Clayton Tune was named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Tune was cerebral completing 22 of 32 passing for 206 yards and three touchdowns, while also getting it done on the ground rushing for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Placekicker Bubba Baxa was named AAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his late-game heroics. Baxa was perfect on PATs and field goals, including two clutch 35-yard FG in the 4th quarter and in the first overtime period.
Houston will travel to Lubbock this week to take on future Big 12 opponent, Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are coming off a 63-10 victory over Murray State. The Cougars will not see their first conference action until Tulane comes to town on Sept. 30.
