Breaking: Quinn Ewers named starting quarterback for Texas Longhorns

Texas Longhorns named Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers starting quarterback ahead of Hudson Card.

The wait is officially over in Austin. Head coach Steve Sarkisian named Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns heading into the 2022 college football season. Ewers, a former five-star recruit who attended Southlake Carroll High School, beat out Lake Travis product Hudson Card for the starting spot. Ewers reclassified out of the 2022 recruiting class to leave high school early and cash in at the college level thanks to new NIL deals. He never threw a pass for the Buckeyes and transferred schools when it was clear that he wasn't going to beat out returning starter C.J. Stroud.

Ewers is one of 35 new faces for the Longhorns entering the 2022 season. Texas went 5-7 in its first season under Sarkisian. Each year. becomes more important for the program as it gears up for an eventual move to the SEC. Ewers is one of two perfectly-rated quarterback prospects in the history of 247Sports composite rankings. The other is former Texas Longhorn quarterback Vince Young. The fans on The 40 Acres hope that Ewers brings as much success to the program as Young. The quarterback room appears to be in good shape for the forseeable future with five-star recruit Arch Manning pledged to Texas in the 2023 recruiting class.
