Texas A&M was the center of attention on National Signing Day.

It signed five-star DE Shemar Stewart and five-star S Jacoby Matthews to cap off a tremendous  2022 recruiting class that rates as the No. 1 class in the nation. 

Stewart and Matthews join a strong crop of prospects who inked with the Aggies in the Early Signing Period, including six of the top 10 highest-rated prospects in the DCTF Hot 100. 

"They are the guys we went after—the guys we wanted that a lot of people in this country wanted," Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said in his National Signing Day press conference. 

"Not only is there great athletic ability, but I think there is great intelligence, I think there is great character, and I think there (are) guys that want to compete and have the same common goal which we have here at Texas A&M, and that is to be the best in everything we do."

"I am really excited about it. It is probably as well-rounded as a class as I have ever had." 

A&M stocked up on ELITE talent along the defensive front.

Fisher believes that this group, in particular, is unique in talent. 

"The guys who can control the game," Fisher said. "The guys who put their hand in the dirt are the guys that matter. I mean, as far as who can change the game immediately. I am very excited about every one of them. These guys have the uniqueness of size, power, and speed."

The Aggies were able to mix in talent from eight states and two countries. 

"We have to go out and take the top players across the country and make us the best program that we can be," Fisher said.

"We want (to recruit) the homegrown guys as much as we possibly can because there is great football here, but we also got to get the best players in this country."

A&M did do tremendous work within the Lone Star State, signing 16 prospects who are all-rated highly in the DCTF Hot 100. 

Fisher loves the central location of the Texas A&M campus, providing his staff the ability to deploy quickly into all of the state's most fertile recruiting grounds. 

"Houston is a tremendous city, Dallas, San Antonio, the Austin-area, the East Texas (area), I mean there's not a better situation, and we are going to recruit all those kids that we possibly can that we can get (to) win national championships with, that we can win SEC championships with, that can be NFL players and want all that," Fisher said.

A common theme of Fisher's post-Signing Day presser was his positive attitude regarding the gameday atmosphere in College Station, the 12th Man, and the Aggie Network. 

"When kids get here, they fall in love with the place," Fisher said. "The people is the key to A&M."

"These are 50-year commitments, not four or five-year commitments."
