Projected Texas A&M starter McKinnley Jackson arrested on felony drug charges

Texas A&M projected starting defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson was arrested on multiple drug charges on Thursday. The sophomore has been suspended.

Texas A&M defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson was arrested and charged with two drug offenses on Thursday, according to Brazos County Jail Records. 

Jackson was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony that carries a $20,000 bail. He was also charged with possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, a misdemeanor carrying a $2,000 bail. The felony could carry a prison sentence between two to 20 years.

The incident reportedly took place on April 7, but Jackson was not arrested until Thursday. He posted $22,000 bond the same day and was released. 

Texas A&M football suspended Jackson indefinitely after his arrest. 

Jackson was projected to be a key piece at defensive tackle after playing all 10 games as a true freshman. The Mississippi native accumulated 13 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. 

Texas A&M expects Jackson to take over the starting role at defensive tackle left by Bobby Brown III's departure for the NFL. If Jackson is out for the opener, sophomore Isaiah Raikes will compete for his spot.
