2021 Class 3A Division II Region I Outlook: Predictions for every district, projected playoff matchups and regional winners!!

Regional Outlook

Out in the Permian Basin it appears Crane once again is primed for the district title as the Golden Cranes return loaded squad with a three-year starter at QB, if there’s a year for Crane to make a deep playoff push, this may be the season. Alpine is incredibly young, but the Bucks will still be too strong for Tornillo and what expects to be a vastly improved Odessa Compass squad.

Lots of questions are in 2-3A Division II as defending district champion Ballinger and runner-up Bangs were both hit hard by graduation, does that open the door for a Brady squad that returns eight starters on both sides of the ball? Sonora also returns eight starters and expects to be much improved as well. Even long-struggling Grape Creek with fifteen returning starters expects to be much improved.

The power in Region I again lies in the Texas Panhandle were defending state champion Canadian, despite heavy losses from last year’s title team gets the nod over Childress and Spearman who both bring back large portions of teams last year that went to the fourth and third round respectively. Don’t be surprised if this trio is all alive when we get to the regional finals once again. Friona is a solid fourth place team and won’t be an easy first round opponent for whoever wins 4-3A Division II.

Idalou and Abernathy once again are expected to be the top teams in 4-3A Division II and barring something crazy, these two will be 1-2 in the district and both are outside contenders to challenge the top teams from 3-3A Division II for regional supremacy. Lubbock Roosevelt brings back seven starters on both sides of the ball from an eight-win team and should be a much improved as well. Coahoma looks like a strong bet for the fourth and final spot ahead of Reagan County.
