COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Baytown Lee became the first two-time winner of the FSN Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship. Lee also won the state title in 2001. The Ganders led by talented junior QB Jeremy Moses built a comfortable 33-20 lead at halftime and triumphed, 51-34. Jonathan Williams and tournament most valuable player James Cleveland each caught three touchdown passes from Moses. Bay City, which reached the championship game for the first time, was led by all-tournament selections Cordero Williams and Fred Agu.
Due to heavy rainstorms on Friday, July 15th, the second day of the FSN Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship started with the cancellation of the 32-team consolation bracket as well as trimming the games down to 30 minutes to expedite the numerous rounds of competition that needed to be played on Saturday. The changes marked the first time in the tournament's eight-year history that the event was not completed as originally scheduled.
With the cancellation of the consolation bracket, the losing semifinal teams faced off for third place. Colleyville Heritage beat Abilene, 27-26, to finish third.
