Shadow Creek TE Trent McGaughey Closing in on 40 Offers

Shadow Creek 2021 tight end Trent McGaughey is one of the nation's most heavily recruited tight ends in the nation who holdsĀ an abundance of major offers. Are there any standouts?

Shadow Creek tight end Trent McGaughey (6-3, 230) was primed for a breakout year in 2020, but after three games into the season, McGaughey had his campaign cut short due to a hand injury. He is recovering well and is looking forward to a busy offseason.

At the moment, 39 offers are in hand for the top 2022 recruit.

Schools like Auburn, LSU, Florida, Oregon, South Carolina, Michigan, Miami, Arizona State, Purdue, Duke, TCU, Baylor, North Carolina, Houston, Tennessee and more, have been in pursuit of his signature for next year.

Of all the schools listed, McGaughey has a couple of early standouts.

“I would say that Miami and LSU stand out for me right now. Miami was a dream school for me when I was a little kid,” McGaughey said in an interview with DCTF in January. “A lot of the guys I liked, I saw that they went to Miami. They send a lot of guys to the NFL. With LSU, I’ve been there a lot and lived there before moving. It’s like a second home for me. I’ve always loved LSU.”

To date, McGaughey has visited Texas, Houston, Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M and SMU. He was set to visit Arizona State, Florida and Oregon before all visits were halted due to the NCAA dead period extension.

While still working in Pearland, McGaughey will continue to improve his game to be ready for his senior campaign and the college level.

“College coaches love my blocking skills, how I finish my blocks. I run good routes and catch the ball well,” McGaughey said about coaches’ evaluation of his game. “Where I would like to improve is getting better with my blocking. I want to work on staying low.”

McGaughey said that all of the programs are recruiting him as a tight end.

McGaughey is the son of Thomas McGaughey, who is the special teams coordinator for the New York Giants.
