Preview and Prediction: Corpus Christi Flour Bluff (11-1) vs Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (12-0)

Dave Campbell's Texas Football high school insider Matt Stepp previews the Class 5A Division I Region IV championship game between Corpus Christi Flour Bluff and Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial. Game time, location and prediction included.

Corpus Christi Flour Bluff (11-1) vs Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (12-0)

2 p.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi’s Buccaneer Stadium

It’s the biggest game to hit Corpus Christi in years as two teams located in the city limits (different ISDs) duke it out for not only local bragging rights, but also to advance one step closer to a trip to AT&T Stadium.

Veterans Memorial took the regular season meeting, 34-17, and the Eagles are playing their best football of the year after they drilled San Antonio Southwest, 55-7. It was their third straight playoff win of at least 33 points.

Vets got it done in all three phases, holding Southwest scoreless for the rest of the game after allowing an opening drive touchdown. They forced two fumbles, blocked two punts and QB Carson Senterfitt account for four touchdowns. It was a dominant effort across the board for Cody Simper’s squad.

Flour Bluff got all they could handle in a district rematch with Victoria West, but the Hornets made the plays late to hold off West in the upset bid, 28-21. QB Nash Villegas was the story for Flour Bluff as he had a hand in all four touchdowns, including the game winner, an 11-yard run with 1:31 left.

Two-way standout Aidan Featherby was big for the Hornets as well with seven catches for 99 yards and a touchdown and he also notched a pair of interceptions on defense.

These two programs know each other well, there’s been plenty of playoff success between the two programs and like most football games at a high level it comes down to execution and turnovers. Very cliché things, but they’ll hold true in this one.

We give the edge to Vets; they are little deeper up front on both sides of the ball and they get the slight edge at the QB spot and that’s the difference.

Stepp’s Pick: Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial by 5
