Early Signing Period Central: Texas Longhorns

A Longhorn fan's one-stop-shop for the Early Signing Period. TexasFootball.com takes a closer look at UT's 2021 recruiting class with video analysis and a breakdown of the top prospect names to know.

Three Key Additions

Who were the highest-rated signees or prospects who might come in and make a significant impact?

DE Ja'Tavion Sanders - Parish Episcopal: Sanders is a physical freak who dominates on both sides of the football in high school but could be making a ton of money one day in the NFL as an edge-rushing defensive end. He has a lightning-fast first step and can run down the fastest ball carriers. Sanders is rated as a DCTF five-star.

DT Byron Murphy - DeSoto: Murphy is a defensive tackle prospect with good quickness off the ball and an explosive first step. He uses his hands well to create separation. Murphy moves well laterally and plays with a high motor. He continues to add mass but has not lost any of the quicks that make him unique.

DE Jordon Thomas - Port Arthur Memorial: Thomas missed his junior season with an injury but quickly showed why he was one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the state with a strong senior year. He is a physically dominant and well-rounded defensive end prospect who will get after the passer.

Hometown Hero

What prospect was a fan favorite on social media or a local hero who starred near the campus?

QB Charles Wright - Austin: Wright makes quick reads and delivers an accurate and catchable football. He always carries himself like a winner on the field, and his team believes in his abilities to get the job done. Wright is the type of quarterback who operates like a surgeon and slices defenses apart.

Super Sleeper

We pick one prospect on the commit list and break down how he might outplay his ranking in college.

RB Jonathon Brooks - Hallettsville: Brooks has swift feet. Makes cuts and transitions without losing any speed or slowing down and has the power to run over defenders. Brooks is an excellent receiver. He will line up as a wide receiver or in the slot and plucks footballs out of the air with ease.
