Friendswood High Schools Seth Spruiell

Hailing from Friendswood High School, Seth Spruiell’s drive and determination has helped him become a standout not only on the football field, but also on the track and in the classroom. Talking to Seth, though, it becomes apparent that what he enjoys the most is helping in the community.

Seth loves competition and the trials and lessons that come along with it.

“He is an extremely hard worker and is motivated by success and competition,” John Spruiell said.

It certainly shows as Seth has been a force on the track and field circuit since his freshman year, winning multiple awards. Though he has found so much success in track and field, it’s football that’s his favorite sport.

“My dad was big into high school football, he played in college as well” Seth said.

Seth credits his father for his love of sports, but also for keeping him thoughtful and driven in the classroom.

As successful as Seth has been in athletics, the junior lights up when you talk with him about his community and what it means to him.

“My community is my home, and I never want to come back home and say ‘I wish I could have done this,” Seth said.

While the junior has been involved in National Honor Society, he also enjoys working at food banks, with Meals on Wheels, and with his local Friendswood Chamber of Commerce and Rotary club.

Through all the hard work, he still finds himself on the A honor roll.

Though Seth doesn’t know what he wants to major in, he did state that he has been thinking about coaching; he likes the idea of being able to have a positive impact on the lives of those around him. Continuing to improve the community around him and, continuing to strive for a better home for those in his presence is what Spruiell is all about.

Presley Young, Blanco High School

Blanco High School’s Presley Young is a special individual. Just ask head coach Matt Karnes.

Young is an incredibly talented athlete who found success in varsity volleyball, even earning all-district honors as a junior.

As talented as she is in volleyball, it’s basketball that’s her first love. Young has been playing the sport since the first grade. Whether it’s for her school or in AAU, she loves the competition of it.

Young earned newcomer of the year as a freshman, but wasn’t content. She earned first team all-district as a sophomore and then district offensive MVP, first team all-district and academic all-district as a junior; not to mention All-Area and All-Region honors.

For as talented as she is, her head coach speaks highly of Young’s ability off the court as well.

“Presley is an outstanding student, currently ranked 12th in the senior class,” Karnes said. “Presley is a member of the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society, in addition to the FCA, FCCLA and Student Council. She also spends time volunteering for Meals on Wheels.”

But that isn’t all Young does. She also volunteers at junior high games in the concession stand.

“The community has been so welcoming; I just enjoy giving back” Young said.

As a senior, Young’s journey is just getting started. She holds offers from colleges to go play basketball, which is a dream to her. Though she isn’t sure what she wants to major in, Young wants to go somewhere that will allow her to grow both academically as well as athletically.
