Texas Tech running back SaRodorick Thompson was arrested in Lubbock County on Monday on a warrant for reckless driving.

Thompson was booked into Lubbock County jail at 1:45 p.m. on Monday and was charged with racing on the highway, a Class B misdemeanor. A warrant for Thompson's arrest was issued on Sept. 15. Bond was set at $2,500. The Irving native posted bond and was released at 4:26 p.m.

"SaRodorick Thompason was notified late last week that there had been a misdemeanor warrant issued in his name," Texas Tech said in a statement. "Thompson and his lawyer are currently cooperating with the Lubbock Police Department and have done so since the incident in late June.

"Texas Tech Athletics will handle the matter consistent with its student-athlete discipline policy and any discipline will be handled internally. Thompson is expected to play in Saturday's Big 12 opener versus Texas."

According to a report from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Thompson was arrested in connection with an incident involving Caden Leggett, who was arrested on June 27. Leggett allegedly raced on a set course against an unidentified teammate – now allegedly Thompson – in Lubbock at 2:40 a.m.

Leggett was active for Texas Tech's first game of the season against Houston Baptist despite the arrest.

Thompson rushed for 765 yards and 12 touchdowns in a breakout season in 2019. In his first game of the season against Houston Baptist, the Ranchview graduate rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
