Houston Commit OL Carson Walker Fired Up for 2020 Season Start

Houston commit Carson Walker and his teammates from Midlothian Heritage are set to start the 2020 season with a key match-up with Wichita Falls Hirschi.

Midlothian Heritage 2021 OL Carson Walker (6'4, 285) is fired up for the 2020 season. The Houston commit and his teammates are set to play Wichita Falls Hirschi in game one.

"I'd say right now; we are looking good as a team," Walker said.

Midlothian Heritage has a lot to build on after last season. In 2019, they finished 11-2 before narrowly falling to Carthage in the playoffs. Walker said that it was one of the deepest runs they've made in the last four years.

There has been some uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season, but Walker has stayed ready to play and helping to lead his younger teammates.

"During all this stuff, I've spent a lot of time working with my brothers," Walker said. "I just want to be better for this year, and yes, I'm optimistic. I have the mentality that we are going to play this year, and we are not going to let COVID shut us down. I'm not being pessimistic. I'm blessed to be able to play this game. I remind my guys of this every day."

Walker's play helped him haul in 14 offers, but in the end, the three-star guard decided to keep his talents within the Lone Star State, committing to Houston.

"For me, it was really the coaching staff building a good relationship with me. I also have a buddy there who helped me as well," Walker said. "The starting center is Jack Freeman, and he's been my mentor since I was a freshman. He gave me that last push. I want to play by him, and I know UH is the right school for me."

Walker said the coaches plan to line him up at guard with the opportunity to possibly play center. He said he can't wait until he can go back for a visit, as he said there was an excellent feel when he was there.

From the coaches to the relationship with Freeman, Houston is where Walker wants to be. He said it was his "finishing mentality" that the coaches were sold on.
