A Closer Look at New Houston Cougars Commit Mark Wilson

The Houston Cougars just picked up a commitment from Clear Lake cornerback Mark Wilson, who is considered as one of the state's top defenders.

Clear Lake 2021 CB Mark Wilson (6'0, 170) just announced a commitment to the Houston Cougars.

"First and foremost I would like to thank God for blessing me with the talent and the skill to make it the next level," Wilson posted o his social media page. "I want to also thank my mom for the unconditional love and support from little league to now and when I needed it the most."

"I want to give thanks to the Clear Lake coaching staff for believing in me and pushing to be a better person and athlete on and off the field."

"Most importantly want to show the most love and gratitude to my dad who walked with me every step of the way, for pushing me when my body was tired but most of all never giving up on me. I’m more than blessed to have an amazing father and support system behind me on this journey."

"With that being said I am blessed and extremely honored to announce that I am COMMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON!"

Wilson picked UH over offers from schools like Baylor, SMU, Kansas, Vanderbilt and more.

"I had options but I had a long talk with my brother (Chris Wilson) and I remember him telling me there’s no better feeling to help build a program and stay in your hometown because no matter what you hometown is going to show you love like no other place can, and that just stuck with me," Wilson explained.

Wilson is an exemplary student-athlete who also had an offer from Yale, so the Cougars are getting a well-rounded prospect who will be ready to go from an athletic and academic perspective.

Next Level Athlete Scouting Report: Wilson tracks the football extremely well. His long arms make him appear taller and allows him to match-up well with the bigger receivers.  Plays safety but could also play on an island is able to show some man cover skills when spinning down and defending slot wide receivers on tape. He is a good, physical tackler in space and his experience at safety should allow him to be a versatile fit in any defense.

Wilson is the first known commitment for Houston in the Class of 2021.
